Two Union Pacific trains exercising trackage rights on BNSF
Author: JoCoLB

This photo was taken shortly after noon Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, just north of the 175th Street grade crossing on the BNSF Railway's Fort Scott Sub. south of Olathe, Kan.

The Union Pacific Railroad train at left was a southbound  loaded coal train that had stopped for a red signal on Track One. At right is the rear DPU on a northbound U.P. manifest on Track Two.  The U.P. has trackage rights on the BNSF double main between Kansas City, Kan., and Paola, Kan.  but I've seldom been able to catch U.P. power side by side in this former Frisco/ex-Burlington Northern corridor.

I believe the U.P. leader and the U.P. DPU were both built in the 1990s.

The conductor on the southbound train is shown heading back to the cab of his engine after doing a roll-by inspection of the northbound train.
