Western Railroad Discussion > Will any Chi-town railfans be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight?Date: 10/22/16 14:17 Will any Chi-town railfans be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight? Author: santafe199 ...just wondering how much a typical Chicago railfan has to dislike baseball to be able to totally ignore a certain, potentially historic sporting contest tonight. Here's one of those "out-on-a-limb" suppositions: CHC 8 ~ LAD 5.
(Of course, if my crystal ball is actually upside down, that might well be LAD 9 ~ CHC 8... ;^) Lance (ex little-league 3rd baseman) PS: Were there any passenger trains than ran regularly between Chicago & Cleveland with those 2 cities as the absolute end points? The Cleveland trains (originating or terminating) that I can think of are: •Pennsylvania Clevelander (New York - Cleveland) •New York Central Cleveland Mercury (Detroit - Cleveland) Cleveland Limited (New York - Cleveland) Detroit Mercury (Cleveland - Detroit) •Nickel Plate Road Blue Arrow (Cleveland - St Louis) Blue Dart (St Louis - Cleveland) Andrew Posted from iPhone Date: 10/22/16 15:44 Re: Will any Chi-town railfans will be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight Author: HotWater I gave up on major league baseball years ago, when that jackass Alomar spit in the face of the plate umpire, and the commissioner didn't ban him for life! So,,,,,,THAT is what MLB was teaching the youth of America????

That was a low point, but I don't quite believe it had the devastating & poisoning effect you're indicating... I believe our grand old game will be around as long as our great democracy will. DKay Wrote: > ...my RedSox got their clock reset... That was sorta abrupt. And there was more than 1 clock getting "reset" (sniffle...) We always talk as railfans where we would go with that famous "time machine". For me that fantasy tour would go back far enough to photograph the special charter trains that carried Major League teams around in the first half of the 20th Century. 1945 does seem like a lifetime ago! But then, 1906 is another, even longer lifetime ago... A sudden thought: If the Cubs win, will Chicago forgive Steve Bartman like Boston did Bill Buckner??? Either way, if the Cubbies win I'd love to be on the resulting express party train. I don't believe there would be any need for flanged wheels because none of those wheels would be touching the rail... 3rd Base (who's on first?) From July 15 to October 27, 1956, the New York Central ran its Aerotrain between Chicago and Cleveland instead of Chicago and Detroit. Lv Cleveland just after midnight, arrive Chicago 7.10am Nice looking train with 10-6 sleepers, 6 double bedroom and buffet lounge car (Night Trains by Peter Maiken, page 377) Date: 10/22/16 16:55 Re: Will any Chi-town railfans will be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight Author: P The media is trying their best to end our democracy, so that doesn't look good for baseball!
In any case, go Dodgers . They haven't won in a while. Posted from Android Date: 10/22/16 17:05 Re: Will any Chi-town railfans will be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight Author: HotWater P Wrote:

Although NOT a baseball fan, even I know that the Cubs haven't even BEEN to the world series in more than 70 years, and it has been more than 100 years since they have actually WON a world series. Date: 10/22/16 17:52 Re: Will any Chi-town railfans will be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight Author: agentatascadero Being an SF Giants fan, I simply must favor the Cubs in this series, Giants - Dodgers being one of the great rivalries in US sports, and there are many such great rivalries. And, to the poster "P": who invited your intrusive, gratuitous and patently untrue political remarks to this BASEBALL party? AA

Date: 10/23/16 14:04 Re: Will any Chi-town railfans will be Dodge-ing the Cubs tonight Author: agentatascadero It is an impressive feat for the two worst "curse" extent to meet in the Series. That alone should create extra joy for these games. Then again, only one team loses that curse. AA
