Eastbound oil through Shafter, CA.
Author: Jared

Caught this eastbound BNSF oil train south of Shafter, CA.  Destination for this train is, most likely, the unloading facility at Levee on the Sunset Railway southwest of Bakersfield.

What are the reporting marks on those tank cars??  They look new...any idea what company built them and when?

Great set of photos...thanks for your help.

The oil will be transfered to a network of pipelines that serve Southern California (Wilmington/Carson/Delores) and Bay Area refineries.

So they're still bringing in oil trains to the unloading facility near Levee. When the price of oil plummeted a year or so ago, there was rumor that the oil transfer facility at Levee would be "mothballed." But before that happened, about 10 more trains (contracted for) would deliver their cargo to the facility where the "light" oil they brought in would be blended with the "heavy" crude produced by the Kern oilfields. Glad to see that the oil trains are still coming in (albeit in reduced numbers) to the oil transfer facility. Great set of photos.

Thanks for the nice comments.  Most of the cars, those with white ends, are lettered DPRX.  It appears, from a quick search of the internet, that they belong to Deep Rock Refining Company.
