On the way home from Winterail
Author: lamta_jay

On the way home to Sumner, Washington the group I was with
wanted to stop in Portland at the Oregon Rail Heritage  Center
and since I have never been there I was game besides it was
SUNNY !!!
First shot is out front across the street with my friend George
being a poser !!
Second I never thought I could shoot the PA and it would actually
come out this good, at least I think it is better than I expected!
Third is the other Nickle Plate engine on the property. Last time I
saw the RSD4 or is it a RSD5, anyway it was at Brooklyn Avenue
Roundhouse in 2004.

I do have one more and it was the reason I came to the Rail
Heritage Center.

Thank you for looking

Jay

Okay I admit I am kind of a switcher junkie !!!

I have seen many switchers but the SW10 at
the ORHC is still painted in UP yellow & gray
and I never got one so now I have added this
to my collection of switcher photos (& slides)

Again thank you for looking

Jay

I very seriously think that the color will change as this was the switcher used by the UP Steam Operations, and thank God it was saved by the folks there in Portland.

Speaking of switcher lovers, I'm sure Dick gives that thing improper glances every time he passes it!

great photos!   Contrary to a couple of posts, I would be VERY surprised if the SW 10, UP 96, changes colors/livery.  this loco was pulled for preservation specifically because it is the last of the SW 10s and used by the UP steam program....that logo is special....and as such deserves preservation as donated by UP.  thanks for visiting the ORHC!    Arlen

Where is the nose bell on that otherwise sharp NKP PA?

Is there a single running locomotive that still has the Overland Route logo on it?  I would leave the paint alone.

Dont know if Doyle has one but if found am sure he will install it. Think it was one of two D&H PA units he bought from south of the boarder.

Thanks for the photos Jay. And I am glad you got pictures of my baby, UPP96. I remember when we gave it a paint job and I helped apply the lettering and decals with my fellow steam crew members. So I was able to operate it as 1243 and as 96. It was handy as we could fit on the 125' Cheyenne turntable with most of the passenger cars and other equipment. And we fit in other locations with the steam locomotives. My good friend, Steve Lee, dubbed the 96 as the "Boys Toy" as it was I whom they came to to make the moves with it while I was on the crew. Steve and Lynn would say "Go get the Boy". Good times and good memories with that one.

I volunteer at the ORHC and, in talking to Doyle, I don't believe the UP switcher will change its colors.  It is the historic switcher from the Steam Shop in Cheyanne and they plan to keep it in its original colors.

Just noticed that I am in the picture with the 190.  That's a KITB.
