Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF transcon symbols question.Date: 04/16/17 16:05 BNSF transcon symbols question. Author: txtrainman43 Would anyone happen to know what the symbols are for trains with stacks, trailers, AND autoracks on the rear? I've also seen a few photos of stacks with racks.

It has been almost 10 years since I retired from the Illinois Division of the ATSF/BNSF, but still enjoy keeping up with latest trends. It is interesting to note that during the late ATSF and early BNSF era change seemed to be the rule of the day. So maybe like an internet search, narrow down your scope or geographic area. What may be true yesterday may not apply tomorrow.
So now I wonder; has the current system of letter train symbols, put into place during the early years of BNSF pooling trains been in place longer than most previous methods? It could be they found a consistent system that works well for computers as well as it does for human minds? Steve Rippeteau |
