Western Railroad Discussion > Up dash 8s current status and all dash 8s

I know Norfolk Southern sold all of theirs to either GE or LTEX. In my life I've only seen 3Union Pacific dash 8s and one CSX dash 8 what's the status of the rest of the Dash 8s ? Any railroad would be nice .

Eastern Washington Gateway has ex-UP 9129. Albany & Eastern in Oregon just got a ex-UP C40-8 and several CSXT B20-8's (rebuilt B40-8's). Washington & Idaho Rwy has three former SP/UP B40-8's, but none are running nor likely will be.

I saw the 9299 sitting in the diesel shops at Colton CA on 8th April. Having visited since the late 90,s I managed to see all of the UP ones bar 4 early wreck casualties,and all except 2 of CSX,s and the 7520. Not bad for a foreigner!

Been a few years since I was back there, but UP had dozens of them sitting in Nampa, ID on storage tracks. Along with SD40-2s, SD60 types and SW1500/MP15s.

I'm guessing you mean the NS B32-8's because the NS has about 150 C40-8W's and is rebuilding some of them. Could be I've been living under a rock...

NS has 75 C40-8's plus 14 more ex-CR's. About a dozen have been made into "C40-8.5" but the rest are gone.

UP Dash 8 fleet status:

149 C40-8 still on the roster. All are stored currently. The 9299 was the last to go back into storage on 4/21/17.

40 C40-8W still on the roster. All are stored currently. The 9360 was the last to go back into storage on 4/18/17.

161 C41-8W still on the roster. All are stored currently, except for the 9439. It is heading from Sweeney, TX to Houston, TX later today, and will be stored within a few days account it's 92 day FRA inspection is only days away. That will put the entire UP Dash 8 fleet back into storage, until business picks up again.

Also worth noting, after a brief return to service starting in February, the UP SD60M and C44-9W fleets are almost completely back into storage now as well. Only 3 SD60M and 5 C44-9W are currently working, with the rest all in the deadlines. These 8 units should be in storage shortly as well.

The NS B32-8s are all in storage (Roanoke, VA I think).

Currently, NS is not rebuilding the C40-8Ws...

I saw this DASH 8 at UP's GEMCO Yard about 2 months. With an SD60.

As of right now ns sold the 8-40cs some went to ltex and some are at cresson steel in pa being scrapped, some of the 8-32By are in storage but some have been sold for scrap in roanoke va the only thing ns is rebuilding is the 9-40cs and and eventually most of the 9-44cws will be built like the dash 9cs there are other builds scheduled like the completion of the sd70acu's and the sd70s will also be rebuilt and the 80Macs when ns decideds to
