SP Water Tank at Westley, California
Author: lanewsman

It still overlooks this farming town in the San Joaquin Valley, now served by the California Northern Railroad. The state's historic drought is finally over, but growers are now worrying about whether there will be enough people to harvest this year's crops.

Nice! Been there to incorporate that water tank with a CFNR northbound rumbling by.

Too bad a photogenic woman wasn't available to enhance the composition, something you're good at doing.

I was standing next to Steve Sloan many years ago when we shot a couple trains detouring because
of a wreck in Manteca. Probably the last time that line ever saw a through train.

Out

Found the shot - it's in Western Discussions. No links provided, because I found it in less than 5 minutes using TO's search function so it should be easy to find.

The Biola Branch and the Los Banos Sub south of Los Banos was abandoned by SP in 1985? Steve's photo is dated 1989, which is very interesting.

The Biola Branch was abandoned in two sections. Kerman to Biola around 1959, and Biola to Biola Jct in 1985.

The West Side between Los Banos and Oxalis was abandoned in the early 90's, maybe 1992 or so?
