San Diego question

I will be at a conference in San Diego next week. Is there still a BNSF freight train that runs north out of San Diego in the evening?

Eric,

This doesn't really answer your question, but this is what I was able to get in a similar conference in San Diego about 3 years ago. My hotel was just across the tracks from the Gas Lamp district and PetCo Park.

If you are in that area make sure you hit the BBQ place along the tracks (Kansas City BBQ I think). A scene from Top Gun was shot in there after some of the production crew ate there for lunch.

The Tilted Kilt right behind PetCo Park is worthy of a visit. No trains, but it doesn't matter.

Arrived on a late Surfliner. 1a.m. Tues. Apr 25th. #796 into Oceanside Ca. On the trek thru the parking lot, a north bound out of San D passed with a string of auto racks. Might be some late night watching.

I place the tardiness of #796 on a private car tacked on the end when 796 pulled into LA Union. Could not get a fix on what car it was. We boarded 796 and waited at least 15min for the crew to pull the car before we departed for points south. Onboard 796 crew was not very congenial at that hour.

This past weekend a NB autorack went through San Diego in the evening, around 7:30 PM. I did not hear any other freights over the weekend even though I was sleeping in a PV at the station.
