Weekend trip out to Tehachapi-Day 3
Author: SP8595

My Dad and I started the morning of Saturday, April 22nd down in the Bealville/Allard area.

1) Just after we arrived, this BNSF empty Grain train was heading Eastbound seen snaking past the West end of Bealville in diffused lighting conditions.

2) Through the horseshoe at Allard.

3) With the rear of the train visible. Power was the BNSF 8251, 4179, 8133.

4) I started hiking up to the horseshoe curve when I heard the next Eastbound working up the grade but first this Westbound Autorack train showed up.

5) The Next Eastbound was a BNSF Z-train and is seen heading through Bealville. The last car, an Autorack is just barely seen in the background.

6) The two BNSF trains meeting at Bealville.

7) Unfortunately the Auto train blocked the view of the Eastbound BNSF train.

I walked back to the car and then heard another Eastbound train down at Caliente so time to go hiking once again!

8) BNSF 8143 heads East with a manifest train through the West end of Bealville.

9) Through the horseshoe at Allard.

10) The front and back of the manifest train at Allard crossover.

With word from a TO member (thanks Jeff!) that nothing was heading Westbound, we just waited for the next Eastbound back at the car.

12) UP 8718, 6851 and 7242 work uphill with a long QRVWCB train. The rear helpers, UP 8806 and 5988 are seen in the background.

13) We then went down to Caliente to shoot the next Eastbound train but he surprised us by showing up just as we were pulling up to the tracks. A grab shot of the QRVWC with 2645 leading.

After lunch, we got word from TO member "slug96" (who also just happened to be visiting Tehachapi) about an Eastbound Military train so we drove from the town of Tehachapi back down to Loop.

13) BNSF 8375 heads East at Walong.

14) A view of the train heading around the Loop. The rear of the train is seen in the background.

15) Some of the tanks on the train.

16) The mid train DP's as the head end of the train enters Tunnel #10.

We then took off towards Warren and just missed the train that got image of the day today:{ Great shot BTW Jeff:}

18) The Military train heads downhill towards Mojave.

19) Going away with my Dad shooting the train

We then high-tailed it back West to get that interesting consist on the Westbound BNSF train but didn't catch up to him until Walong where he was waiting on a pair of trains

19) The second train was the BNSF 7979 seen below the Loop.

After waiting for for over a half an hour at Woodford for the BNSF train, we finally "threw in the towel" after he never moved:{

20)Last shot of the day was at Cable of the UP 9033 heading West.

We then met up with TO member "slug96", meeting him for the first time and had a very enjoyable Dinner with him and two of his friends.

Spectacular photography there bud. It's nice that you can still go out there with your Dad. After looking over the shots several times, the first one with the curves has to be my favorite of the bunch. Nice time of year to be there, too. === === = === JLH

It would helpful for others who photograph this area to know which photos are taken from the ground and which photos are taken for the air.

Every shot was taken with my feet firmly on the ground. I do not own a drone:}

Enjoyed the entire series of photos. Glad the green held on just long enough! Some neat catches for sure, the "tank" train is my fav with mid trains, very unique.

Those are ALL some really awesome photos! A couple stand out for me, the military train from the SW side of the loop is excellent and of coarse the one with your dad at Warren. I bet multiple pairs of socks found their way into the trashcan from the foxtails :)

Another great group of shots John! As I've said before, your dad is amazing. Did you you have trouble keeping up with him?
