ATSF #2921 is all loaded up and ready to move from Beard Brook Park in Modesto. The movers are now waiting for a permit from the California Highway Patrol to proceed with the move. The move date is currently in limbo. A crew is working at the Amtrak station today, making final preparations for the arrival and unloading of the #2921.

After you've obtained financing from the likes of the Sheik of Araby to cover the restoration costs, the question then becomes whose pike are you gonna run it on?

Why wait for the #2921 to be restored for operation? #2926 just passed its hydro and should be fired up by the end of the year. But operating beyond the end of the siding requires approval from higher ups in the NMDOT and $$$ money for insurance. Donations needed for that to occur.

Think about it. We get two, the 2921 and 2921. Both operating and promoting another great steam get together in Sacramento like it was nearly 20 years ago in "Rail99Fair."
Also invited would be another newly restored to operation steamers around the US! Also maybe Madam Queen will be operating then.
When they took up 2921-- what happened to the kitties? Hope they will be cared for.

And just where do you propose to operate such large locomotives in the Southern California area??? The poor AT&SF 3751 can't seem to operate any place anymore, due to all the freight and passenger trains in the LA basin.

Build it and they will come.
Don't propose southern California operation.
The engine is in Central Calif and it could run there and in Northern California regions.
Again, I hope a Central California RR group will adopt the 2921 and begin restoring her for operations.
And enough belly aching from the timid with negative waves as it will take more than a decade, maybe even a generation, until she'll be fully restored for operations.

......and the question still remains unanswered. On whose railroad in Central or Northern Calif do you propose to operate a 510K lb. steam locomotive?

The question is actually what railroads will be available in 20 to 30 years and what will be their attitudes at that distant time period?

All that aside, YOU need to recognize reality. I have been heavily involved with main line steam operations, since 1975, and have seen first hand the constant change in attitudes of today's railroad management. For what it's worth, I am NOT "being negative", but I am providing the facts of reality.

You are "being quite negative", and you can't be providing the facts of reality that are two or three decades into the future.
Enough of your negativity and admit you can't predict the future; it does not belong to you. And that is what your negative comments are worth.
Build it and they will come and there is great accomplishments in leaving a legacy of a fully operational AT&SF Northern for our children, reference the miracle of Albuquerque NM.
