Missouri's SP Tunnel Motors
Author: bnsfsd70

On a hot, July evening, a few of us ventured out south of Kansas City to photograph the Missouri & Northern Arkansas, as word had gotten out about one of their ex-SP Tunnel Motors leading it out of the city. G&W has recently transferred a few of the KYLE's SP Tunnel Motors to the M&NA, and along with the ones that were already there, such as this one, the railroad has quickly become a bit of an SP haven.

Amazingly, this 1975-built SD45T-2 has maintained the same road number since it was built, although it has gone through a number of owners, beginning with the SSW.

Photo 1: Well, we first caught up with the train in Lee's Summit, MO, though the clouds struck us pretty hard there, so here's a shot of it a bit down the road in the "town" of Ore, MO. Anymore, Ore is just a siding and a farmhouse.

Photo 2: Now into Harrisonville, the crew had just tied the train down, waiting for the outbound crew to hop on board.

Photo 3: Here, we see the train pulling out of Harrisonville, MO for Carthage, MO after making its crew change at the "depot."

It may not be Cajon, but the 9391 sure looked good rolling through west-central Missouri.

Thanks for looking,
- Jeff Carlson

Would LOVE to see this unit preserved as a stand-in for the wrecked SSW 9389 (Only 2 numbers off) and painted in the bicentennial scheme, plus preserve/restore the former SP 3197 (GP40P-2) in its bicentennial paint (It still exists, for the time being), and talk OERM into painting the SP 3100 (U25BE) into its bicentennial scheme. Put the three of them together and, WOW!
