Western Railroad Discussion > on the road again . .Date: 09/20/17 18:45 on the road again . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . took advantage of a great Southwest fare recently and ended up in Minnesota for a week. Last night after an hour and a half late flight arrival at MSP got a motel on the north east side of town "thinking" I would be north of traffic, not so. After a while of LA reminder I ended up in Rush City, home of the Saint Croix Valley railroad, which was planned. Although the weather did not cooperate, the railroad did as the pair of GP's were split up and on each end of the sand house yard near North Branch (top) and the train ran north out of Rush City crossing a lake in Pine City (middle) and passing through the only place on the line where there is any elevation near the town of Beroun (bottom) after which they tied the train down on the main at Hinckley ending this part of the day . . . six more . . .
Date: 09/20/17 18:45 Re: on the road again . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . after lunch headed for exDMIR territory as planned catching a unit "material" train (no idea what it is?) move passing under Hwy 33 near the siding of Coons (top) then went to the exDWP over the exDMIR in the small village of Munger catching a northbound LONG stack train in the first sun of the day (middle). I would end up passing under the bridge myself three more times and every time I headed back toward the junction at Adolf a northbound was just clearing! Seeing another northbound lined through Coons headed for Burnett catching this lite Loram "thing" ( I "think" is MAY be a switch rail grinder? ) heading into great afternoon sun (bottom) thought I did my homework with radio freqs but NEVER heard a single word on the channels I have? Anyone out there willing to share their secrets? Any help greatly appreciated. . . . three more . . .

Author: 3rdswitch . . . as I said three times I arrived Adolph to find a northbound train had just cleared and this late in the day with shadows long about the only decent place was the Hwy 33 overpass near Coons where I caught two northbound trains in a row (top and middle) after of course driving all the way back to Adolph, but at least the sun was out all afternoon and they did run trains. Except for the exDMIR Proctor bound trains it appears the exDMIR is a northbound only railroad with CTC islands at the sidings and although I did not see a single southbound it appears the exDWP main is directional running for southbounds? A VERY pleasant surprise the end the day was dropping over the ever popular bridge spanning the north end of CN's exDMIR Proctor yard finding a DMIR unit working the afternoon yard job (bottom). I didn't know there were any units left in the scheme? One more day up here before heading back south of the Twin Cities along the BNSF and CP river lines.

I would guess the "unit "material" train (no idea what it is)?" you saw is a limestone train heading to one of the taconite plants on the Iron Range. Todd Busse Date: 09/20/17 20:09 Re: on the road again . . Author: MP90 All nice shots. Good to see you gave the St.Croix Valley another shot.
