Western Railroad Discussion > Turbo death on CableDate: 09/23/17 13:02 Turbo death on Cable Author: tehachap Stack train creeping through Cable at 1:02 p.m. I stopped to pick up the mail 3 blocks away and spotted the smoke. Wondering if they'll set this locomotive out before Mojave.

Very very interesting and Amazing photos, thank you for sharing this. ---Daniel Date: 09/23/17 15:24 Re: Turbo death on Cable Author: Margaret_SP_fan The poor BNSF 4591 sure ain't having a good day!
Looks just like what a steam locomotive would emit when either sanding the flues or, more likely, making a lot of black smoke to please the photographers. That poor thang!! She is a C44-9W, and was built i Nov., 1999. Hookdragkick -- Not to worry -- these things happen. Doesn't bother me, and I'm a Californian, and prefer clean air, but -- whatcha gonna do when things like this happen? Have a fit? Not me! BTW -- I LOVE your "handle" -- it's one of the best I've seem here on TO! Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/23/17 15:51 by Margaret_SP_fan. Date: 09/23/17 17:57 Re: Turbo death on Cable Author: SD80MACfan Just another GE impersonating an Alco impersonating a steam locomotive. Nothing unusual to see here.

Either way it will probably spend some time in the diesel shop at Barstow. Fuel system issues are usually white/blue smoke. Not trying to be contrarian, but this is how it usually turned out for me. Date: 09/25/17 12:57 Re: Turbo death on Cable Author: exhaustED Foamductor Wrote:

I think I'd agree with this, i'm not a railroader but fuel-rich mixtures tend to give blue smoke, poor combustion (lack of air) tends to give dark sooty smoke... |
