How the West was Won - D & S
Author: cinder

Continuing on from Chama, NM to Durango, CO, we now enjoy the trackside drama of the Durango & Silverton. My wife and I stayed at the Iron Horse Inn (It's really just an adequate motel.....Never an "Inn"). It's a few miles north of Durango and several rooms are nicely trackside....with four steam excursions in daylight.

I prefer to chase and lens these trains rather than ride them. That way, I can respond to changing weather and choose my venues.

1. Second morning train arriving in Silverton, CO, passing in front of the first train which has backed in on the wye. A heavy shower has just ended.

2. First morning train passing the Silverton depot......"After the Storm".

3. (Video) Second morning train to Silverton at a rural crossing still down in the valley. The nearby weeds are showing their early fall colors. Watch the cars "rock & roll".
