on the road again . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . . as hoped for this day turned out way better than yesterday. First thing in the morning an eastbound CP grain train passed through Minnesota City (top) then crossed the river to catch this eastbound BNSF hotshot at W Winona, WI (middle) then crossed the river back into Minnesota for the remainder of the day catching eastbound Amtrak number 8, Empire Builder passing through Minneiska (bottom) . . . NINE more to come . . .

. . . after Amtrak headed up river a bit as a second grain train was following catching him also at Minneiska (top) After the train for Watseka finished its work and pulled up the line toward Watseka the workhorse H19 came into town to make it's setout then departed town for it's next work at Wabasha. This train normally has great power but today just another filthy AC4400 led. The daily westbound train that heads west up the old ex CNW "cowboy" ex DME now CP line to Waseca *corrected*, train 471, had been sitting waiting on a relief crew for a bit in Minnesota City and now with a new crew aboard was climbing away from the river plain toward Stockton and points west ( bottom ) . . . SIX more to come . . .

. . . another view of the westbound train for Waseca *corrected* approaching Stockton (top) before the real climb began. I have never seen a train on this line and was looking forward to chasing up the grade but where the real grade is between Stockton and Lewiston the tracks are hard to access in dense woods. Caught another eastbound passing through Minneiska (middle) then the odd move of the day. Wondered why the DS kept asking this guys location then when he appeared passing Weaver siding (bottom) realized he did not meet minimum axle requirements not allowing the DS to line trains behind until reporting clear of control points. . . last THREE coming . . .

. . . train behind lite unit was a surprise with BNSF power approaching Minneiska (top) finally barely making last light of day the only two westbounds ALL DAY, with the exception of the H19, were close together approaching the east end of Homer siding (middle) and approaching the west end of Homer siding (bottom). It's surprisingly HOT out here for being late Sept!

Great pictures of railroads in our state.

However, I believe the town on the former CNW/ DME now CP that you refer to as Watzeka is actually named Waseca, MN.

Thanks for sharing a great bunch of pictures.

> Its pronounced Waukesha Wi. Wrong town: Waseca, MN is about one hundred miles west of Winona on the former C&NW
(later DME) Alco Line to Huron, SD and on to Rapid City. Waseca was the crossing point of the CNW and M&StL. The
CNW was the east-west oriented line, the M&StL the north-south line.
