Today at OERM--one week before Thomas--we began reassembling the wheelset and traction motor combination. The first order of business was to mount the newly honed brasses followed by the wheelset, then the bottom support bearing brasses, and finally the bottom retainers. Next weekend, while the rest of the museum operates Thomas, the 1006 will forge ahead to reassemble the truck itself. When it was put together originally, we fitted the equalizers, journal boxes, and brake rigging to the wheelset and motors. This time the truck is already half assembled! It may be more challenging this time!

Carl and Frank are using a torque multiplier to tighten the bottom retainer bolts to about 1200 ft. lbs.

After the fasteners are 'torqued', does the head of the fasteners get 'wired'?

Yes! They were wired about a hour later! Much harder to do once the truck is together!
