Splitting the Highway
Author: BNSF-6432

After a few months of waiting on the right opportunity, I was finally able to catch UP's 51 job travelling down state highway 51/US 64 here in Tulsa, OK today. Between Sheridan Ave and Lewis Ave. the tracks split the eastbound and westbound lanes and is mostly surrounded by trees and residential areas. A while ago I noticed an opening past Harvard Ave. and was able to take advantage of it in decent light. (with a little elevation from the car)

Three UP GP's lead the lengthy size train east to Muskogee, OK. But not before the crew ties the train down at Sheridan Ave. for a later crew to continue out of town

Taking a look back, here's a view of the same line and same job shot by my dad Daryl McGee in April 1988 as the train moves west into Tulsa.

Interesting, and very well composed!! I would guess a location like that takes smart planning and a bit of good luck...

I'm liking #1. There are lots of poles and potentially tall vehicles to work around, not to mention catching a good sun angle. You did good.

p.s. DBM did good, too. :-)

Excellent PQM. Nice frames at a really busy, distracting location. Standard cabs are good to see--and 1949 is my birthday year.

Nice series of photos. Nice to see units with no graffiti.-BMT

Great set of photos. I'm a fan of trains pictures in the middle of freeways or roads, and you got the timing perfect with the poles and vehicles cooperating.

Awesome before and after! Good job on the UP local. Dig that ex-ICG engine.

I believe those were loaded with small pipes likely from BNSF

It looks like you need to get out of the LA area. Most locomotives I see have little to no graffiti.

Those ethylene tank cars must be empty. That is one type of car I have yet to see in person. It looks like I need to get out of California.
