Western Railroad Discussion > 2nd Annual "Northwest Turkey Shoot"Date: 11/23/17 23:21 2nd Annual "Northwest Turkey Shoot" Author: nomosantafe It’s time for the 2nd annual “Northwest Turkey Shoot”
When I lived in Cleveland (1993 - 1998), every Thanksgiving, the Forest City Chapter of the Railroad Enthusiasts would meet at Bob's Big Boy for breakfast and a morning of foaming at Berea Tower. I understand that they celebrated their 40th anniversary last year. We called it the "Turkey Shoot". I became a dispatcher with BNSF in 1998 and moved to Texas. In honor of that tradition, in 2005, I started my own version called the "Texas Turkey Shoot" and posted pictures here on Trainorders. Now that I am retired and living in Portland, Oregon, it has become the “Northwest Turkey Shoot. Here are the links to the previous year’s Thanksgiving posts. 2005 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1044681,1044681#msg-1044681 2006 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1287080,1287080#msg-1287080 2007 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1542232,1542232#msg-1542232 2008 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1813883,1813883#msg-1813883 2009 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2065220,2065220#msg-2065220 2010 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2329696,2329696#msg-2329696 2011 Did not go out that year – pictures are from Thanksgiving 1969 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,2620467,2620467#msg-2620467 2012 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2924990,2924990#msg-2924990 2013 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2924990,2924990#msg-2924990 2014 & 2015 Did not do the Turkey Shoot It was revived in 2016 after my retirement in July 2015 and moving back to Oregon 2016 1st annual “Northwest Turkey Shoot” https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4167971,4167973#msg-4167973 Here's today's photos. 1. BTW - On a Dispatcher road trip in 2013, I spent some time with the bridge tender. He took me up to the top of the north tower and I stood next to that red light at the top of the bridge tower Then it was home to watch football and have the Cowboys let me down by losing, followed by a great Thanksgiving dinner. Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving ! Nomo Date: 11/24/17 07:05 Re: 2nd Annual "Northwest Turkey Shoot" part 6 Author: MEKoch You saved the best for last. The tree colors at lift bridge are a nice contrast to the train!

He has always scoffed at my interest in trains but my niece uses the Portland light rail and street cars all the time. She says, "Uncle, we have lots of trains up here".
