BNSF derailment at Ibis near Needles
Author: mapboy

Heard from TO's Ray Lewis there's been a washout and 15-car BNSF derailment at US 95 near Ibis, west of Needles.

US 95 was closed due to a mudslide, then the train derailed.

That would make sense as Gallup and Seligman sub dispatchers are having trains tie down in sidings and Winslow yard.

Photos of the derailment look like a double stack train was literraly blown over.  I haven't seen any washout photos yet.  If the train was blown over, the track should be open fairly soon.  Amtrak #3 is out about 30 minutes late approaching Gallup, no word yet on what will happen to it or #4.

Supposedly there is a wash out in Kingman Canyon. Bridge support on track two may have been undermined! Could be the high bridge that’s been compromised. Can anyone confirm this?

As of right now, they have stopped a train on M1 at Valentine W.  Looks like they have Westbounds going on M2.  That's as close as we can get to Kingman Canyon as of right now on ATCS Monitoring.

Looks more like straight line winds that took care of that doublestack.

These two indictions of track indications for both these westbounds have been sitting.  The one on M1 since 7:45pm AZT, and the one on M2 has been there since 9:00pm AZT.

Main 2 opened around midnight, with Z trains going east first.  The Z LACWSP9 just got stopped to avoid hitting the derailed cars, it's the train you can see in the background of the newspaper photos.  It went by the Flagstaff webcam at 0503 AZ MST, 0603 MDT railroad time.   In the last four hours (to 0200), the westbounds have been only two Zs, a Q or Z with 6 trailers/no UPS and a Vehicle train.  Eastbound two Hs, the Z LACWSP9 and another Z at 0630.  Should be more Zs coming east shortly by Flagstaff.  Some westbound non-Zs will need help to make it up the steeper Main 2 west of Ibis, but they have manned helpers available at Needles. Amtrak #3 (running 2 1/2 hrs. late at 0630) and #4 (2 hrs. 21 minutes) are already past the derailment site.
