Boeing train through Gillette
Author: bmarti7

I’m in Gillette for a few days. Any sightings of a Westbound Boeing train would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do they go through Gillette on a regular basis?  I've seen several facebook photos showing them on the Black Butte Sub headed for Crawford Hill.

J trains are solid Boeings but many times the fuselages are mixed with stack or vehicle trains. Good luck.

I don't know about Gillette or how often the trains run, but if you go over to the Skykomish webcam on Youtube and rewind back to 08:55, you can watch one of those trains going west with 3 fuselages on it. I've seen the trains several times on there in the past week or so.

They are common on through manifest trains going through Alliance-Laurel etc. I remember seeing them in the early to mid-90s often when I lived there. Big high wide load type cars.

They run solo from Wichita to Laurel now where MRL usually adds them to the Q or something else though they occasionally run all the way to Interbay. Boeing pays a premium now for "expedited service". Looks like they're normally a nocturnal movement through Gillette.

No, that would be through Edgemont, SD and Donkey Creek.

The MRL does not build the fuselages to Q,S or V trains that is all BNSF's call at Laurel.

From what I recall when I worked out of Gillette, the Boeing stuff was usually on the KCKPAS (Kansas City-Pasco), which I believe was a high priority manifest, since it never had any work, from what I recall. But the Boeing loads were always up front, and I doubt they wanted you switching with those things anyways. Every so often a unit Boeing train would run through under a "J" symbol. I feel I'd see the Boeing loads a couple times a week. Empties would run through Gillette headed back east as well.
