The adage is that sometimes you're the baseball and sometimes you're the Louisville Slugger or maybe it's a windshield and a bug.  Either way, we were smashed yesterday.  We had heard that the UP's Salute to Veterans engine, #1943, was departing Council Bluffs today for a trip to Cheyenne.  That's one good looking engine so I didn't want to miss the chance.After well over 2 and a half hours of waiting in the "perfect" spot for photos on a curve east of Fremont, NE, a cloud showed up.  AAAARRRRGH!  5 minutes earlier or later and we would have been OK. Oh well, ya pays yer money and takes yer chances! These shots are east of Fremont about 5 yesterday afternoon.  Glad we got them but could have done without the cloud!

There was a lot of rail traffic in Fremont so 1943 was held on the east edge of town while things cleared up.  We got through town in good time and found a location on the west side of town to wait for the special.

Great photos of an awesome paint scheme on a locomotive. Currently this loco sits peacefully in Cheyenne with its train awaiting its being mated with the venerable 844 locomotive. Talk about the pride of two different eras., these cover that thought.

UP did a great job with this engine.  Pride is evident in it!  We're looking forward to getting it and the 844 back this way again.

Glad to see the photos you got of it sun or clouds--they are nice shots.

Great pics!  Surprised me when I just happened to be watching Grand Island railcam when it zipped by.  Beautiful long string of cars too!

Cloud shots look great with that shiny reflective paint job on nose you did great.

I think that your 3rd shot is the best of the lot - partly because with a bit less sun one can see the details of the entire train. For comparison, the shots near the grain elevator, while handsome, have much of the train's side in shadow and the nose of the loco is too shiny for best viewing. But all are excellent....
