Western Railroad Discussion > Mt Hood RR questionDate: 08/08/18 13:12 Mt Hood RR question Author: CPRR Mt. Hood RR has a switchback in the middle. So does the train leave with locomotive leading or on the pushing? or two locomotives?
Also, what frieght do they carry? I can not think the fruit growers ship a lot by rail. Date: 08/08/18 13:35 Re: Mt Hood RR question Author: railstiesballast They shove the train with the locomotive about a mile to the single switchback, then pull from there to the end of their trip.
They run around their cars and come down the branch loco first to the switchback, then shove that last mile, then run around in Hood River. AFAIK the revenue freight is outbound lumber and they do some car storage also. Others with more knowledge, please expand/correct my first response. I rode this a couple weeks ago; see post under Passenger Trains. I sprung for the dome ($20 extra); one can ride in the vestibule like the good old days. Cattle? Noooooo |
