Western Railroad Discussion > Espee Getting Hard to FindDate: 08/10/18 14:24 Espee Getting Hard to Find Author: UPTRAIN As the remaining list of SP painted units shrinks on the UP roster, knowing one was about to leave Kansas City was certainly enough to get me out of the house into the heat today (although it's not as hot as it has been in recent days). With diurnal thunderstorms starting to pop this afternoon I was fearful of getting shadowed, but the sun held out for exactly 16 seconds long enough to get a sunny, albeit kind of high sun shot of the RPMTG 09 with UP 6310 on the point as it made its way through the northeast side of Independence, Missouri on the UP River Sub. I'll take what I can get.
That being said, how many are left? I've seen a couple figures recently. One post says there are 6 left, another says there are 8. Another I've read elsewhere specified that the 6 or 8 referred to just AC4400CW's; so how many total SP painted units are left out there on the UP? Either way, you better shoot every one you see now. It could be your last, the list is dwindling quickly. (That SD60M trailing was a nice touch as well.) Thanks for looking. Pump Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 08/10/18 14:26 by UPTRAIN. Colton UP 6406: At N. Little Rock Date: 08/10/18 16:14 Re: Espee Getting Hard to Find Author: ble692 I will add a little to SP8595's list of patches.
The GP60s break down as follows: SSW/Cotton Belt: 1004,1005,1011,1055,1068,1076,1089,1158 SP: 1015,1051,1053,1066,1080,1124 The SP GP60s listed above all have the SP speed lettering, while the SSW units all are non speed lettered obviously. UP GP40-2 1413 is the last non speed lettered SP unit on the roster, although when I saw it last there was no Southern Pacific lettering at all left on the engineer's side. I do believe the conductor's side still has some Southern Pacific lettering left. Date: 08/10/18 17:27 Re: Espee Getting Hard to Find Author: PHall Considering that it's been over 20 years since the assimulation, I'm surprised there's any SP painted units left!

Date: 08/11/18 08:43 Re: Espee Getting Hard to Find Author: UPTRAIN I much appreciate the updated lists guys. I knew somebody out there was keeping track. It's getting pretty hard to do so with as quick as they're moving through the paint booth at Jenks. Even though they're long in the tooth looks-wise, I'll keep shooting the ones I see. At least it's something besides yellow. It'll be strange for the UP roster to be all in some degree of company livery save for the heritage and special painted units. When you think about it, when this process is complete, it'll be the first time the entire UP roster has been yellow since more or less 1982.
Thanks again for looking and your research. Pump |
