President Bush Funeral Train - Navasota,Tx
Author: gcm

Here are a few of my shots of the train.
This is at Navasota - about 20 miles south of College Station.
This was where three lines came together and paralleled each other for a short distance.
The ex-MP line (where the funeral train ran), ex-Santa Fe from Silsbee and the ex-SP Houston-Dallas route.
This was on private property (a gravel company) but they were nice enough to let people on site.
A great job by the UP setting up and operating this train. They ran two trains with the first one full of press and others. I just missed this one when I arrived - did anyone get a shot of that train?
A gloomy, cloudy and rainy day, I guess appropriate for a funeral train.
I was watching a live feed of the train before arrival and marveled at the thousands of people that came out to see it.

The train is headed in to the main area of Navasota where hundreds were lined up.

Gary, thank you for posting these fine images. I especially like # 1 with the entire train .

Very effective people filter for the first 3 shots.

I was a few miles north near Millican for at least 30 minutes before the train came by, and did not see any other movements.  I wonder if this other train had the rest of the passenger cars, since this was an 11 car train and from everything I have heard, 21 cars were sent down.

I think it did have the other cars.
The first train came by early. I arrived at Navasota arounf 12:30 and talking to people who were there for a while, they said it had passed by 30 minutes or more before.

Great photos!  Thank you for sharing them.

Did the bagage car hve a hole cut in the side of it for viewing the casket?  Or was a door simply removed?  The opening looks larger than the door that would have been there.

From the images I saw early on at Westfield the first train had two UP unites on it and ran ahead of the funeral train quite earlier. As some said I heard the press ond others were on board it. The TV coverage was great with the go cams on the 4141 outside and rightr behind the cab showing folks along the route.
Great photos Gary and I will offer a thanks for having the people in one of your photos as this was a day of honoring the 41st president and this shows some who did just that.

From all appearances it looks like the door is in the open position and a window "plug" with the plexiglass and frame was inserted.
The window is smaller then the door opening.

The doors were open and plexiglass skillfully put in place for viewing of the casket as the train passed.  A first class job of installing the temporary window!

And in matching the wrap around the door frame so it all matched. Good job!
