Amtrak 464 on the Southwest Chief
Author: YardLimit

In January of 2019, Amtrak 464, an F59PHI Surfliner locomotives deadheaded on Amtrak 4, the eastbound Southwest Chief.  We caught it in Bernalillo, NM.
These locomotives are being retired from service in California having been replaced by Siemens Chargers.  Fortunately they will go into service on Chicago's Metra.

I don't know the Amtrak equipment roster, but that baggage car looks rather unusual.  Where did THAT come from?

The “Viewliner II” series of baggage cars, built by CAF USA, started to enter revenue service around 2015.

Not being "retired", but rather lease returned. Lease expired, owner declined to renew and then sold them to METRA.

Bye-Bye to the 'Hudson', my favorite of the Surfliner F59s.
