I skiied into Shed 10 today (a mildly epic undertaking, given the weather).   I arrived at the RR at Crystal Lake (west of Shed 10) just in time to catch the flanger heading east to meet #5 at Truckee to lead them west.  This was the only flanger on The Hill today.  I would see it 3 times.

I bet the crews were talking about ya on the radio!   "Look at that crazy guy out there taking pictures!"

"A"+. for effort and off the charts for the image! I have been shooting i the Sierra in winter since the early 1960's going on snow shoes but have not gotten a shot in blizzard contditons .  Great image!

The flanger guys tapped a greeting on the horn on 2 of their 3 passes, but never said anything on the radio. Later #6’s headend mentioned seeing me to the conductor- who answered he’d seen me too, and had spotted the blue “Amtrak Crew” ID tag on my pack. But they didn’t recognize me. (I should think it couldn’t be THAT hard to guess!)

Epic photos Boilingman. I don't get tired of seeing pics of the flangers so keep 'em coming!

So with the blue Amtrak Crew tag, could you get them to stop and pick you up?  Then you would only have to snow shoe one way.
