Problem on Marias?
Author: bmarti7

I see no. 7 is sitting at Essex in service disruption since 8:46 Sunday evening. Any information why? Nothing on BNSF website yet.

Don't know the answer, but the restaurant at the Izaak Walton Inn is quite good.  Apparently, passengers had enough time to walk over and sample the fare.  -:)

Word of a possible BNSF derailment on Facebook. No alert on the BNSF site at this time.

Wind chills in Havre and Marias of -55 and actual temps in the -30 range. Extremely high winds east side and extreme avalanche warnings.

This is down low on the west slope.  It's "only" -9 in Essex.

Possible derailment in a tunnel, still no official confirmation.  On the map it appears that Empire Builder #7 has reversed back to Essex where at least passengers will have access to services from the Izaak Walton Inn.

I'm really curious what it is since #8 is getting closer and closer, and wasn't held somewhere.

Reportedly two cars derailed.  Likely the line is open by now but #7 is waiting on a relief crew - or maybe they're putting the crew up at the Izaak Walton Inn for eight hours before continuing.  It's a long way from both the Shelby and Spokane crew bases.

Nothing to solve really.  Traffic seems to flow through there fine during normal conditions.  Like many railroad passes sometimes mother nature and unexpected events will just rear up and kick you in the ass and you can't do a thing about it.
