BNSF Z-Trains Detoured via Palmer Lake, CO
Author: cozephyr

BNSF is detouring their Denver, CO, to Chicago, IL, Z-trains via the Joint Line through Palmer Lake, CO, 19 March 2019.  Midwest flooding along the Missouri River prompted the detours starting last week.  BNSF 7899, ES44DC, led the train south with CSXT 3237 as the 3rd unit.  Train leaves the Pikes Peak Subdivision at Pueblo, CO, and runs via La Junta towards Kansas and points east.

BNSF Service Advisory-Record flooding in portions of South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri is causing major disruptions to BNSF service and operations in the region. Recent (mid-March 2019) heavy rain and snowmelt have caused area rivers to reach historic levels in many locations.

With multiple washouts and high water on BNSF main lines in the area, several subdivisions remain out of service. We are also anticipating additional closures in the next 24-36 hours involving our Hannibal and River Subdivisions that run adjacent to the Mississippi River.

I have heard that PRB Coal trains that service Southern Company power plants in Alabama (JHMX) and Georgia (RWSX) are being routed via
this same way. The flooding that has occured in Nebraska, Iowa and soon to occure in Missouri and southward to the Gulf States is a major disaster
that will take years to recover from.

Nice catches. Noticed it sat awhile there at CP Palmer Lake as did it's northbound counter part which spend some time sitting at CP N Colorado Springs. I guess Z trains don't have much clout on the Joint Line. A visit to Natchez, MS, last week showed the Mississippi River already at flood stage there with higher levels to come.
