Train testing Azusa to San Dimas (Calif) on former ATSF 2nd Dist
Author: DNRY122

On Sunday, Apr. 28, the Gold Line Construction Authority and Metrolink has planned to do testing of the new communication and signal systems on the former Santa Fe 2nd District between Azusa and San Dimas.  This is in the San Gabriel Valley east of Pasadena.  The testing is expected to start at 10 AM and run to 10 PM.  Note that this line normally sees one or two trains a day, so this may be a chance to get photos at many locations.

When I worked on that line a couple of years ago we did this same type of testing through Azusa which ran all night. They used 3 BNSF units and an Engineer who thought he was Casey Jones. It was solid horn blowing from just east of the brewery to the other end of town. by midnight most of the citizens of Azusa were about to take up arms. The timetable speed is 40, but there is a standing restriction of 20 on the entire Pasadena Sub. Did make for some fun entertainment though.

I would assume the BNSF track will eventally be moved over north or southward to make room for the Gold Line double track like was done in Azusa.

The BNSF track will be moved southward until it gets near the boundary between Glendora and San Dimas at Lone Hill Ave. Going through San Dimas, Laverne and Pomona, it will be on the north side to serve customers in Pomona and the MWD spur.  The Gold Line will have a flyover bridge at Lone Hill.
