The best answer is that nobody seems to know.  Research done by myself and others has been unable to determine a number.  The first three digits "250" are or were visible on the caboose, that makes it a CA-3 class caboose (its appearance supports that) but there were 100 of them and any attempt to determine which one has been met with deadends.

It looks like a CA 6 as that class was the only one with that style of trucks.

Is this one of the cabooses from the MJB Realty Company? They had several. One of them was in Yorba Linda. As a switchman many years ago, my job actually put that caboose on the Anaheim local for shiping to Yorba Linda. I don't remember the number though.-BMT

With a little digging in Utahrails.net, I found it's the CA3 25037. From what I understand, the PE Depot that it sat next to has become a Poly's Pies restaurant. Years ago it was the MJB Realty office. -BMT

UP 25037 is the CA-3 at the former MJB Realty office at 200 W Imperial Hwy in Brea. The one in Yorba Linda is unidentified. I crawled all over and under that thing back in 2007 looking for any remnants of the original number but came up empty-handed.

Good catch but strange it does not have any UP lettering.

A Chino Valley News article from June 1988 said that MJB Realty purchased six cabooses in 1979.  The six cabooses were parked by there realty offices in Chino, Yorba Linda, Brea and three in Anahiem.  Back then MJB Realty owned (or leased) the old PE depot and the caboose was there.  It was moved about 10-15 years ago to its present location (a short distance away) when the highway was widened.  The CA-3 #25091 is still at the Chino location (4790 Riverside Dr).

Thanks for sharing this information. I have updated the information on this caboose roster page.

Also on this page about the retirements of UP's steel cabooses.
