Hays Ks derailment

Just saw a post on Facebook that the UP derailed 3 ethenal cars in Hays Ks.  Cars are not leaking, but have the area blocked off.  I have no idea why they derailed.  maybe some one kind find out.

Based on the first pic of the local story, appears it split a switch entering a siding (assuming the power in the photo is DPU)…

Photo from the link clearly shows that the last car on the ground has a FRED and two units on the head end. Appears to be a local and not a unit ETOH train.

Yes it was a slow moving local doing the daily switching. Indeed it did pick a switch and the ethanol cars decided to lean over for a little nap

Every time there was a hanging on “Gunsmoke”, Matt Dillon always had to take guilty party to Hays.
Must have been some town in the 1870’s.

The Funny thing was too that there where always mountains.. I've lived there for 23 years and haven't found them yet!
