Western Railroad Discussion > Amtrak No. 4 had different look while approaching Kansas CityDate: 08/05/19 07:41 Amtrak No. 4 had different look while approaching Kansas City Author: JoCoLB Amtrak's Southwest Chief No. 4 had a bit of a different look this morning (Monday, Aug. 5, 2019) while running more than 1-1/2 hours late while approaching Kansas City.
I was staked out at Holliday and watched the train leave the Topeka Sub. and enter the Emporia Sub. This was a 14-car train today, pulled by three Amtrak locomotives. Trailing the power were five Metrolink Bombardier cars out of California, followed by the normal baggage car and eight Superliner cars. Unknown where the Metrolink cars are headed. The previous note for NC was on the subject of five locomotives that NC purchased. These are units that Cal air quality folks had Metrolink drill hoes in the Block, so thay could not be reused. The new EMD power was financed on the basis, non on the old locomotives could operate again !!!! Unfortunately your video also reminds me of how old and tired the "3 sheets" paint scheme is. Sure would be nice to see some more heritage schemes.
