I was afraid the 4014 had disappeared into the Nebraska mist after it left here yesterday. The steam board had turned mighty quiet today.

As the local newspaper put it: "No public viewing of the stopped locomotive was scheduled in Grand Island during either of its passages through the city. “Unfortunately, Grand Island is a community where the infrastructure does not allow us to safely invite the public to a Big Boy display,” said Raquel Espinoza, UP’s Senior Director of Media Relations."
Let's see: 844, 3985, and the E-9's have all stopped in Grand Island in the past, and were available for public viewing. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to "read between the lines" of UP's statement above. I will give them credit for stopping in Central City though. Edited 1 time(s). Hard to figure out that decision when other engines in the heritage fleet have been previously displayed.

Still has the overland hearld on the west end. To bad some extra effort wasn't put into a photo opp. for that reason alone.

parking area between the entrance and the building. Maybe some day. Out Date: 08/05/19 20:48 Re: UP Big Boy Kearney Nebraska newspaper coverage Author: Spoony81 Pobo6 Wrote:

Not sure why they couldn’t do something similar in Grand Island? Posted from iPhone Date: 08/05/19 21:04 Re: UP Big Boy Kearney Nebraska newspaper coverage Author: callum_out It's pretty open West of town and wouldn't block any crossings, problem downtown is just that, there isn't much
distance between crossings. The area around the Nebraska Central facility and the yard is industrial with other than the enginehouse parking area, not very accessible. Out Date: 08/05/19 21:57 Re: UP Big Boy Kearney Nebraska newspaper coverage Author: dan wpjones Wrote:

I just have to make it home so I can download all the images and start the long sifting process. "Film @ 11", you might say... Posted from Android |
