A close look at the engine behind it shows a broken nub where the coupler head used to be.

Photo shows DPUs on the rear of the train.  Looks like "point rail" failure in the turnout while the trailing DPU was crossing it.  Note that the "ditch" dug by the snowplow pilot is going away from the photographer.

Looks like coupler shank on other unit is snapped clean when trailing unit dug in and leaned. This snapped coupler and unit separation is  probably the only thing that put train in emergency.

Picked the switch and tried to go a different way.......yep, had the drawhead not failed they could have dragged that puppy a good distance.
