Sometimes timing is everything.  Gorgeous day today on Cajon, and then UP 4014 got passed inside the curve at Davis Ranch by a BNSF Baretable with a KCS Belle 2nd in consist.

Amazing photo!

That baretable went around the steam train while it was stopped in Victorville, so that train crew got several looks at the 4014 it seems.

Just a perfect photo! Thanks for sharing!

Curious whether air is set under the train and if so, how much?

Educated guesses and wild, uninformed speculation welcome . . .     :-)

Probably not.  The train tracker showed the train tonnage at around 1000-1500 tons IIRC.  The lone ES44AC should have been able to hold back the train suffeciently on dynos alone.  If air was set, then certainly no more than a minimum reduction.

I wonder if the engineer of the frieght contemplated pacing the 4014.  If I was in his seat I think I would have done it for at least a few miles.
