Ever discover something that's been around a while?
Author: bmarti7

That happened to me today. With cloudy weather and rain/snow mix, it wasn't a good day to shoot. As I cruised along Memorial Hwy in Mandan, I spotted something I've never noticed before. I can't tell you how long it's been there. I can tell you it was well-hidden behind a building and high-fenced equipment yard on one side and a huge sand pile on the other. I was able to get this angle without trespassing on railroad property (I think) A little internet research states that it's the BGSX 1242, a SW 1200 RS, was built for the CN in 1956.

It's funny the stuff we find in our own backyard that we haven't noticed before, lol. Nice find Bill!

What is going on along side the fuel tank? The conduit running down makes it feel like a stationary unit, but hard to tell from this angle.

There's two of them too. Doesn't look electrical either.

Air compressor cooling coils. All locomotives have them. Some are more obvious than others. In this case, the large fuel tank forces the coils to a more visible location.

Don, I think he is referring to the two pipes running across the walkway and then down.
