The San Gabriel Mountains looming large.
Author: SPgoletablock

-The chaparrals fall colors distinguish themselves on the three distinct ridgelines of the San Gabriels that tower above the renowned Sullivans Curve.

The four high points on the image above from left to right:

Good show.   Isn't that The San Andreas in the back?

Yes, I believe that is the San Andreas Fault back there.

Yes, San Andreas Fault (Lone Pine Canyon) is between the first and second ridges, North Fork of Lytle Creek between the second and third ridges.

That is very cool and I'm always amazed at the elevations that close to the coast, living here in Iowa at +/- 550ft.

When I lived in Southern California, I often surprised people from "back east" with the information that you can ski in LA County during the winter. There are several ski slopes in the San Gabriels within county limits. Skiing may not rival the Sierras, but it's convenient.

What's more surprising is that you can ski in Iowa in at least two locations. My elevation at Arlington NE was the
same as when I lived in Redding which appears to be at least in the foothills. Lotsa misconceptions about the midwest
and Texas. The Rock had a helper district in Texas out of as I remember the crossing of the Red River. At last, having
been born and raised in SoCal I can remember the days when you couldn't see across the street, the aerials from
Pomona yesterday were stunning, the combination of running out all the heavy industry and pollution controls has
definitely cleaned the air up.

Yep, ski at Mt Baldy in the morning and surf at Huntington Beach in the afternoon. A truly SoCal thing to do.

And as a bonus, from that high angle you can't see all the graffiti that covers every bridge abutment and retaining wall in Cajon Pass now.

Actually, today the SoCal thing would be to swim in one's swimming pool at the multi-million dollar house, then hop across the wall and take a walk through human feces, drug syringe needles, and homeless drug addicts and mentally ill indigents.

Do you actually live here or is this yet another snide comment about California from someone who doesn't live here?

The SoCal bashers that I like best of all are the ones that not only don't live here, they've never been here, not even long enough to change planes...........
