Western Railroad Discussion > 10 Trains in 51 milesDate: 12/09/19 14:33 10 Trains in 51 miles Author: bmarti7 After a week in Kansas, it was time to head back north and west. My journey this morning would begin in Lenexa. I chose to go north on I-35 to I-635 north and I-435 doesn't have an interchange with Missouri Hwy 9, along the BNSF St.Joesph Sub. First stop was the QT on Kansas Ave at I-635. They have a cook-to-order kitchen and made me a monster breakfast burrito for three bucks (lasted until dinner). I jumped off the freeway at Riverside, MO and proceeded north. I didn't spot the first train until west of Parkville. However the DS was talking to crews about "Murray's not taking very many trains" to "they're sending dog catch crews out as fast as they can". The first train I came across was tied down at _________? (the siding that runs under I-435). From there........well you'll see. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
BB 1. BNSF 4269 west, with CP 8946, leading a tied-down grain train 2. Tucked in behind the garin train - BNSF 4480 with a work train 3. BNSF 9256 gets a dog catch crew at East Leavenworth more.... Date: 12/09/19 14:38 Re: 10 Trains in 51 miles Author: bmarti7 3a. 3-EMD DPU's on same train
4. DPU's 8438 & 9256 on an eastbound coal train tied down at Sadler (it was impossible for me to get to the head end with out trespassing) 5. 7801 East leads a manifest around the curve Date: 12/09/19 14:46 Re: 10 Trains in 51 miles Author: bmarti7 6. 4625 east leading a unit train of gray hoppers - my experience suggests this is a unit train with the corn mash waste from an ethanol plant, headed for animal feeding in ?
7. 6272 east moving at Halls with coal loads 8. 4689 east pulling up to a stop short of SW 70th Rd, with an ethanol train 2 more.... Date: 12/09/19 14:51 Re: 10 Trains in 51 miles Author: bmarti7 9. Climbing over the US 59 overpass, the ________shoots under me. No time to even roll down the passenger-side glass - just shoot through it. The placards showed crude oil cans - probably headed for Cushing, OK.
10. Time to gas-up in St. Joe and (of course) lights flash and gates come down - just time to jump over the gas hose and grab the camera to catch the 7267 east leading the H-LAUKCK Edited 1 time(s).
