Fort Worth & Western....what's next?
Author: Txtrainman60

Aside from the business in the Fort Worth, Cresson, Cleburne area, Is there ANY hope left (business wise) west of Cresson on the old Dublin sub. now that frac sand is gone? I sure don't see it here in Dublin.

Comanche, just west of you.

There isn't enough business left at Gore brothers in Comanche to warrent upkeep of the entire line. I don't even know how the "peanut" line to Gorman survives as the peanut business has also gone the way of frac sand.

Another possible traffic is the rebuilding of the bridge across the Rio Grande river that will connect with the line .  How much traffic will make the run on that line is unknown but, there obviously will be some or the bridge would not rebuilt.  Of course it could go to the UP as well as Texas Pacifico. based on its destination.  TP connects with FWWR at San Angelo Jct.

Didn't I read somewhere the BNSF was considering repurchasing the Dublin Sub?  What happened to that or was it wishful thinking?

I see them tearing up the track before a BNSF deal. I really don't see anyone wanting this line. I've been hearing this T&P / FXE deal for years and it's never happened. At one point, there WAS a (very short) ray of hope. I thought we might see eastbound loaded tank trains thru here and westbound empties but that was shortlived!

There's another player here...Texas Pacifico Transportation leases the line from TxDOT between San Angelo and Presidio on the border with Mexico.

The real question is who will pay to rebuild the bridge in Presidio? That's not going to be cheap...

The bridge is already being reconstructed.  It started a few months ago and I think Txdot is paying half of the rebuild.  Txdot actually owns the line all the way to San Angelo Jct and has leased it to Texas Pacifico.

I visited the Texas Pacifico at Alpine last month.  While the rails were still in, ALL the anglebars had been removed from the track from the depot to the UP connection--I walked it.  Paper work inside the derelict station was from 2012, and indicated that the line was out of service from Ft. Stockton to Presidio at that time.  So this scheme has quite a ways to go yet.  BSB

Here is information on the rebuild of the Presidio-Ojinaga bridge across the Rio Grande.  Click on this link.      https://www.oaoa.com/gallery/collection_587225e2-8184-11e9-a56a-b3cbcfd7b447.html

Well....If that bridge was put back in service last year, it's certainly made no difference at all for FWWR. It sure seems to me that Txdot wasted a lot of tax payer money to rebuild a bridge that goes no where with little or no traffic base!

The Mexican traffic will be increasing in the coming months as Ferromex has purchased the FWWR per anonymous sources.
The official announcement and details will be announced on April 1st.  Stay tuned rail heads.

If that's true, then it gives FXE a lot longer haul, as you can see on the map here-  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4945182  That would be true for all the Mexican beer and autos mentioned here-  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4945560  There could be obstructions to clear before autos could run the route.

Long SLOW haul for sure. It sounds interesting but I'm curious what they would plan to haul. I'm sure any oil coming out of far west Texas is going to BNSF and not FWWR. I'm very skeptical about this but keeping an open mind here.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in the date?

Yeah.....Kinda goes along with those three CEFX Trash-9s we were told would be painted in FWWR colors! NOT!

This week (November) I was at Paisano pass. Track gang doing ties on KCM&O line there.
Welded rail being laid Fort Stockton south. I didn't get north of the yard. Two CEFX SD90/43s DP'd with 15 center beam cars loaded with new ties. Sunset, gang running for the hole to tie up south of town.
