Western Railroad Discussion > Eastern Sierras Winter Railroading, Chilcoot, CaliforniaDate: 03/19/20 12:30 Eastern Sierras Winter Railroading, Chilcoot, California Author: Zephyr UPRR's IG2OA struggles out of the Beckworth tunnel and into Chilcoot on the cold snowy day of March 17, 2020. Normally this train operates 2 or 3 x1, but today it was only 1x1. Once the train reaches the relatively flat Sierra Valley, speed increases as it races toward Portola and a crew change.

A couple of thoughts: The snow does a great job of absorbing a lot of the wheel noise and Is it likely that most of the containers were empty, that's a lot of train and it is doing well.

Chip, we ended up with 4 feet of snow at our place near Clio. Clearning the deck will take days, but gives me some fresh air and exercise during "shelter in place" here in California!
