Eastern Sierras Winter Railroading, Chilcoot, California
Author: Zephyr

UPRR's IG2OA struggles out of the Beckworth tunnel and into Chilcoot on the cold snowy day of March 17, 2020.  Normally this train operates 2 or 3 x1, but today it was only 1x1.  Once the train reaches the relatively flat Sierra Valley, speed increases as it races toward Portola and a crew change.

At least it's all downhill from there to Oroville.

Thanks for the post.  A couple of thoughts:  The snow does a great job of absorbing a lot of the wheel noise  and  Is it likely that most of the containers were empty, that's a lot of train and it is doing well.

The Reno Local used to interchange there, often in the snow, much fun.

Nice catch and great video!  The Sierra is one mountain range and has a north-south and in Spanish means "The Great Snowy Range".  No need for the "s" on the end.

Pete, I am surprised you had enough charge in the battery to get the whole train! The IG2OA’s have been running between 12-14000 feet! And the snow! How much did you get down in Clio?

Great video, thank you! It's nice to hear EMDs working hard by themselves, like the old days....

Thanks for the tip on correct presentation of Sierra mountain range Mike!  Chip, we ended up with 4 feet of snow at our place near Clio.  Clearning the deck will take days, but gives me some fresh air and exercise during "shelter in place" here in California!

Had a history teacher a Columbia JC that would have a fit if you said Sierras.
