Western Railroad Discussion > the evolution of the truxton flyover #3Date: 06/23/20 20:40 the evolution of the truxton flyover #3 Author: goneon66 here is a look this afternoon at the bnsf's "flyover" construction at truxton, az on the seligman sub. the video starts going from the west to the east then back to the west.
the flatcars of concrete ties are in the n/siding of truxton off of main #1. it was interesting to watch that tractor compacting the dirt fill on the e/approach. the approaches to both sides are really evident and the "flyover" itself over the tracks is progressing................. 66 You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Think of it as a > permament crossover. A crossover that doesn't tie up both mains. mapboy Date: 06/23/20 23:35 Re: the evolution of the truxton flyover #3 Author: uprrman156 The dozer is compacting the fill and also another reason they do it is to add the track marks to cause ripples so to speak to keep water from running straight down the hill and to hold seed when they spray it on

I see 14(?) flats full of new of concrete ties staged on site. And the first steel span already installed (over the existing main), with the remaining spans waiting their turns on top of the existing (recently cured) completed towers. I'd bet we're 8-12 weeks (steady work) out from maybe seeing freight on the new flyover?

The natural-crossover is being constructed to alleviate recurring grade issues for BNSF's ever-increasingly heavier freight trains along its Southern Transcon. See the comments in this January 2020 thread on the topic for additional details... https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4943379 ~ Mr. MRL Date: 06/24/20 03:02 Re: the evolution of the truxton flyover #3 Author: sums007 Thanks for the video! Date: 06/24/20 04:46 Re: the evolution of the truxton flyover #3 Author: Hookdragkick I seen it the other day. I was looking for you too! I really think they couple of picked a better spot, like outside Winslow where the topography is already in your favor. Now you're going to run EBs on M1 up through Nelson... oh well.

i also think the area between sunshine and w/winslow would have been a good choice for a "flyover" location. as i remember, slow w/b's were frequently "run around" between east and west darling with minimal hits to e/b's. not gonna happen with "left hand" running. with "left hand" running, it will be interesting to see how or IF slow w/b's get "run around" between dennison and e/flag and any resulting delays to e/b's........ 66 Date: 06/24/20 08:12 Re: Truxton flyover Author: timz Yeah, why is the flyover that far west? On paper
Seligman or east of there makes more sense. Date: 06/24/20 08:26 Re: Truxton flyover Author: jst3751 Could it be possible that a second flyover will eventually be created at the "better" location?

They've already invested in this location, so here it sits. Date: 06/26/20 09:37 Re: Truxton flyover Author: timz FWIW the chart shows 1.5 miles averaging 1.8%
compensated, eastward on the north track at Nelson. Date: 06/26/20 09:41 Re: Truxton flyover Author: goneon66 what is the grade on the south track (M-2) between peach springs and yampai?

Date: 06/27/20 20:51 Re: Truxton flyover Author: timz Traditional eastward grade Needles to Ash Fork
was 1.42% maximum. I'm guessing they won't feel the need for a second flyover to undo the result of the first flyover. Date: 06/27/20 22:00 Re: Truxton flyover Author: jst3751 timz Wrote:
