Western Railroad Discussion > A few from the South Yuba River Canyon below Donner Pass.Date: 07/05/20 21:54 A few from the South Yuba River Canyon below Donner Pass. Author: CimaScrambler 1) Eastbound Manifest (FROG, per intelligence) crossing Butte Creek Bridge at Shed 10, east end of the single track.
2) Same location two days earlier. This train was a short empty grain with CP power third out. A cloud stole away the sun at the last minute, but there is just enough grazing light on the side of the train to make it interesting. 3) Another eastbound earlier in the week passing the west portal of abandoned Tunnel 40 at Troy. This was a shapshot. Camped near there for two nights and got a taste for that high bare-granite country, a real treat for a Cajon and Mojave junkie like me. Be safe out there - - Kit Kit Courter Menefee, CA LunarLight Photography Date: 07/06/20 06:07 Re: A few from the South Yuba River Canyon below Donner Pass. Author: 3rdswitch Three nice ones.

I was told a tale that said the local signal system was on "garenteed" PG&E power but got switched off unexpectedly during one of the big outages last year. That building beside the propane tank in Tunnel 40 houses a propane-fuled electric generator that can power the local signal system should PG&E stab the railroad for power again. - k Kit Courter Menefee, CA LunarLight Photography Date: 07/06/20 19:26 Re: Donner Pass. Author: portlander Unless it was an extra, we don't run an mfrog. Either the mrvog, mrvsp, or mfrnp. It's daylight, so probably not the mrvsp.
