The Other AZ Wreck, Peavine
Author: mococomike

A few weeks before UP made headlines with the Tempe Bridge wreck BNSF quietly piled up a bunch of cars at MP 96 on the Peavine between Grand View and Hillside, AZ This area is very remote with no access roads and BNSF had to bulldoze a nice new road to access and clean up the carnage. Here are some shots of wreckage after the line has been cleared.

Lots of loaded HAZ-MAT tankers---dangerous and no fun!

Thanks for posting. Your photographs document the scene well, and a few creative shots as well. Thank you for posting.

Wow, lots of LPG tanks, that would NOT have been good. I see the "tight lock" couplers worked. Nice effort on your part to get in there. I'll bet you'll find some new angles with the new "road".

Well if you're going to derail some LPG tanks that looks like the place to do it.
Out in the open and away from everything!

It was just interesting until I saw "1075" and then I twitched involuntarily.

Wow, some serious damage. Yeah if you have to derail hazmat cars, doing it in the middle of nowhere is better than in town. BTW, where is this new "road" at?

What do they do with the wheel sets? Recycle or scrap?

The track looks like it could use some more work. In the record southern Arizona heat, could that be a heat kink?

Some nice photos along the Peavine. Some nice angles at the wreck site. Did you use an SUV on the temporary road ?

Hi John, The new service road is good for normal vehicles, 4x4 not needed unless muddy.

Sulfuric Acid 1830 too. And I don't think the shorter (but not NaSO4 short) white tank cars were NG either.
