Bridge Opened With Minutes To Spare
Author: walstib

The new bridge at Drano Lake, on the BNSF line on the north bank of the Columbia River, saw its first train about 2:54 p.m. — about 6 minutes before the reported 3 p.m. target.

It was an eastbound manifest at 15 mph.

A westbound is expected soon, with a 30 mph limit.

It was a true group of professionals involved in swapping the old bridge for the new one, and a real pleasure to watch.

There is probably still plenty of work, welding out the bolted joints, tamping up approaches, careful inspections of the superstructure and substructure, and they the clean-up.
Thanks for the reports throughout the project.

Plenty to do, indeed.

Including getting rid of a long, box girder from the old span. It’s sitting between the track and the highway. Seems kind of big to haul away, so I’m wondering if they’re going to cut it up on scene.
