Western Railroad Discussion > Killer ConsistDate: 09/15/20 18:32 Killer Consist Author: sugarcreek56 CN L546 is normally a nocturnal job working from the Centralia, IL Yard to the TRRA Madison Yard in Venice, IL. Early Monday morning, September 14, the crew of L546 ran out of hours and was parked at CP Church south of IL 157. Surprisingly, on my way home from work on Monday afternoon, I heard on the scanner that the crew was on board, looking for a signal to proceed. I was able to get to the crossing at Mousette Lane at the south end of what is now the KCS yard before the train, and then again catch it again at Valley Junction. The eight unit consist was worth the chase.
1. L546 approaches Mousette Lane with GTW 4920 GP-38-2 in the lead. 2. L546 approaches Valley Junction as a northbound UP auto rack crosses to enter A&S Gateway Yard. 3. L546 crosses the diamonds at Valley Junction and enters the TRRA Transfer District. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/15/20 18:40 by sugarcreek56. Date: 09/15/20 18:34 Re: KILLER CONSIST Author: sugarcreek56 4. As L546 heads north, the UP auto rack curves into Gateway Yard as a manifest departs southbound.
5. IC 1032 SD70 is second in the consist. 6. C 9613 GP-38-2 is third in the consist. Date: 09/15/20 18:37 Re: KILLER CONSIST Author: sugarcreek56 7. IC 1030 SD70 is fourth in the consist.
8. CN 9460 GP-40-2 is fifth in the consist. 9. CN Gevo blah blah blah is sixth in the consist. Date: 09/15/20 18:39 Re: KILLER CONSIST Author: sugarcreek56 10. IC 6203 SD-40 is seventh in the consist.
11. IC 6202 SD-40 is eighth in the consist. 12. L546 heads north on the TRRA Transfer District. Date: 09/15/20 18:43 Re: KILLER CONSIST Author: inCHI That is a wild consist, I didn't realize there were still SD40's in IC paint. I don't know anything about CN operations in that area - is there any reason they would need to send that much power into the St. Louis area? Are there any yard or local jobs those engines would be for?
