More Catching Up On The BNSF Northern Transcon

It was a partly cloudy cool day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub. The high-low was 58-37 with .37 of rain yesterday. Traffic is at 24 trains since midnight, also MoW is back again on the Team Track. Here are some of the trains from today and the last couple of days.

10/12/2020

1. WB 310pm oil train with BNSF 3939-8374 on the point with DPU and a friendly toot-toot from the hogger.
2. WB 439pm "Z" train with BNSF 6292-6355-7808-5649 on the pull with DPU's.
3. EB 529pm empty intermodal train with BNSF 7151-6253 on the point with no DPU.

4. The End of same empty intermodal/TOFC train. Lots of empty FedEx trailers.

5. Grab shot of EB 914am 4x2x1 Mega empty coal/grain train with BNSF 7809-9386-7544-6851 on the point with DPU's in the rain.
6. Middle DPU's BNSF 7495-3990 on same train.

7. End DPU BNSF 4547 on same Mega train.
8. WB 939am ethanol with BNSF 8053-4573 on the pull with DPU and a friendly toot-wave from the hogger in the rain.
9. WB 953am manifest train with BNSF 3846-5681 on the point with no DPU.

14 more to go.

10. WB 1018am coal train with BNSF 5860-5742-6224 on the point with DPU's.
11. DPU's BNSF 8346-9009 on same train.
12. EB 1141am empty oil train with BNSF 8331-H1 1066 on the pull with DPU.

13. BNSF 477432 GN Heritage Hopper rolling in WB 1202pm grain train.

14. WB 1026am "Z" train with BNSF 5227-5844-7888-7221-8443-5169 on the pull with no DPU.
15. WB 1039am manifest train with BNSF 6125-6594-8527 on the point with no DPU and a friendly wave from the hogger.

16. EB 1124am manifest train with BNSF 4573-8053-8189-8992 on the pull with no DPU.
17. A USDA scale car with lots of graffiti rolling in same train.
18. The End of same train fading away by old Ritzville NP Depot.

19. WB 1144am coal train with BNSF 8525-5773 on the point with DPU's.
20. DPU's BNSF kissing cousins 9220-9360 on same train.
21. A going away shot of the same DPU's on same train.

22. WB 1201pm oil train with BNSF 9728-9004 on the pull with DPU.
23. DPU BNSF 7659 on same train.

How often do the pair up an empty coal train and empty grain train together like you shared here? I don't recall seeing that combo before.

I've only seen it a couple of times in the last months. Doesn't seem to happen very often.

Larry, we are lucky to have so many trains running through our back yards. The UP lines here in northern California are quite scenic, but are very lacking in train traffic. Been a very disappointing trip in that respect.
