Western Railroad Discussion > Talgo ScrapTrain Heads Up PNW & CADate: 02/25/21 17:52 Talgo ScrapTrain Heads Up PNW & CA Author: SLORailfanning Amtrak Cascades Series 6 Talgo's are being scrapped. There will be two sets of these Series 6 Railcars coming down this Saturday lead by Dash-8 #506. It appears to be roughly following the timetable for #11. It will follow 11's route down the coast
ETD Seattle: 08:35 AM Tomorrow ETA Eugene: 4:07 PM Tomorrow ETA Sacromento: 05:30 AM 2/27/21 ETA SLO: 2:07 PM on 2/27/21 ETA LA: 7:11 PM on 2/27/21 All times are subject to change. I anticipate them following the normal crew changes Date: 02/25/21 18:23 Re: Talgo ScrapTrain Heads Up PNW & CA Author: EricSP It seems odd that they are going from Seattle to the LA area to be scrapped. I would think scrap yards in the PNW could bid higher since they would have lower transportation costs (not to mention local mini-mills).

I would say it's highly unlikely they will be scapped right away. Most likely held for resale, and maybe eventully scrapped, but not right away. Same for the ones sold at Beech Grove, which have been acquired by the same parties. Posted from Android Date: 02/26/21 09:41 Re: Talgo ScrapTrain Heads Up PNW & CA Author: NPRocky There are reports up here that Louisiana is interested in the Series 6s for New Orleans-Mobile and possibly New Orleans-Baton Rouge service, especially since the FRA has apparently rejected the NTSB's condemnations of the 6s. Also, latest word on the bypass is that service will likely start sometime in July.

They can't do that supposedly due to the different braking characteristics which is why you often see the Talgo moves go solo. There would be issues with the length and blocking crossings in Oakland if they did that. Same reason PVs are limited to 4 on the Starlight when it runs at full length. |
