Western Railroad Discussion > Possible changes in CheyenneDate: 03/30/21 17:22 Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: Bob3985 I had heard from a couple of friends that the railroad will be abolishing all but one switch engine and close the yard tower this next month.
Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 03/30/21 17:28 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: callum_out Just like the subs North of LA, who needs switch engines when the road crews handle the pick ups and set outs. Give it a month
and they'll be working industries en route, PSR you know. Out Date: 03/30/21 17:51 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: GP30Frank Gosh Bob, maybe UP wants to get out of the Railroad business, and go back to covered wagons ?
Date: 03/30/21 18:44 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: tomstp I have seen a lot of empty well cars on UP trains headed west.
Date: 03/30/21 19:15 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: zr1rob UP westward train this morning on the sunset route had a couple dozen empty well cars tacked onto the end of an autorack train. unusual.
Date: 03/30/21 19:19 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: Gonut1 Huh? I thought Asia was desperate for empty containers?
Go Date: 03/30/21 20:21 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: Drknow UP doesn’t want any business but bulk commodities that are picked up at point A. and delivered to point B.
If the Class Ones don’t watch it they are going to have Government regulation up their collective ass again. Not that it is not needed, PSR cultists are out to suck the life out of the Industry and to hell with the consequences. Date: 03/31/21 10:27 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: bradleymckay According to a source some of the work MAY be moved to a Colorado location north of Denver...
Early clue: the IOACY symbol was changed back to IOANP. Allen Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/31/21 14:23 by bradleymckay. Allen Posted from Android Date: 03/31/21 11:11 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: Zephyr Interesting information Bob! Maybe the "thinkers" in Omaha decided to shutter Cheyenne when they reopened the east hump at North Platte. I think some of the block swapping from that decision moved to Cheyenne, so maybe it's going back to North Platte.
Pete Clio, California Date: 03/31/21 13:30 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: callum_out Hey those IOANP guys can do the Denver setout before tieing up! When does this all quit?

Would make a classic PSR train... They are running Roseville to Green River and Green River to Roseville manifests now as well, instead of Roper or Ogden trains. I'm guessing Green River is block swapping to make outbound trains or pickups in both directions. Date: 03/31/21 17:36 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: kyrasmus This is unforntunate to hear. With the refinery changing over to renewable diesel production, they are going to have a much higher demand for rail service. Feedstocks in, produced renewable diesel out to California. Still quite a few quarters until start up, but hopefully that would change UPs mind to have more local operations.

WANT. BUSINESS. Posted from iPhone Date: 03/31/21 21:11 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: wyeth ble692 Wrote:

Three days later: "Oops, that didn't works so well, let's try this ridiculous stunt"... etc, etc, etc. The only thing precise at the UP these days are precisionly stUPid decisions! Every weekend, senior UP management must have a huge party, get really smashed, and come up with that next weeks operating plans! Date: 03/31/21 22:00 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: callum_out How do you build a bigger crew base in Green River? From a train handling persepctive it might make sense but the available
work force is going to be tough. Oh well, it's the UP, changes usually only last a few days, still waiting for a mega-yard at Fleta. Out Date: 03/31/21 22:59 Re: Possible changes in Cheyenne Author: DevalDragon callum_out Wrote:
