Western Railroad Discussion > A few images from the "Pass" SaturdayDate: 04/05/21 20:18 A few images from the "Pass" Saturday Author: oyw A visit to Cajon Pass last Saturday provided lots of trains, including a few worth posting (at least in my humble opinion). The day started when I spotted an eastbound BNSF manifest at Devore before daylight. It was making good time and, from a distance, it looked like all clean power so the issue was where to find sunlight?
1) I decided to try Pine Lodge, at 7:04AM BNSF 3691 arrived in golden morning light. This was the same set running around last week with all clean Tier-4’s. 2) Trying to find a better overall angle, I barely beat him coming into Summit just as the sun rose above the mountains. 3) Back down at Cajon, I spied a fairly nice repainted GE facing out on the rear DPU of a UP westbound. UP 7024 at Blue Cut. Date: 04/05/21 20:22 Re: A few images from the "Pass" Saturday Author: oyw 4) Not much of a shot but another Tier-4 GE BNSF 3682W at Blue Cut a few minutes later.
After several more nondescript trains, I had an appointment in Rancho Cucamonga so I left. Once finished, I was just getting on the freeway for home at 11AM when I heard the dispatcher calling the NS 4314E about a dogcatch crew in San Bernardino. A few minutes later I was back up at Devore to begin my wait. 5) It took a while and it was almost 1:30PM when the train showed up, long enough for the high-noon sun angle to be gone. NS 4314 and 4274 (the same units featured here yesterday by MrMRL) were followed by BNSF 6648 and 5145. 6) One more taken coming into Summit. Since it’s fairly unusual to find NS leaders on eastbounds in SoCal, I have a possible theory. On my way out around 6:30AM, I heard a train (BNSF 51…something) wyeing its power down in San Bernardino. Just a guess but maybe this was that train and the NS’s were originally trailing? Either way, it turned out to be an interesting day. Hope you enjoy, thanks much for looking. OYW Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/07/21 19:16 by oyw.
