Western Railroad Discussion > Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always HungryDate: 04/19/21 09:00 Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always Hungry Author: BoilingMan The signal at the East end of Seacliff, CA is slowly "Going back to God".
It will surely be missed at some point. SR Date: 04/19/21 09:11 Re: Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always Hungry Author: tomstp Now there is a signal head that truly needs replacing.
Date: 04/19/21 10:05 Re: Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always Hungry Author: radar Corrosion from salt air is merciless.
Date: 04/19/21 10:52 Re: Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always Hungry Author: tomstp Plastic head would work wonders.
Date: 04/19/21 11:30 Re: Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always Hungry Author: NDHolmes For all the times I've seen railroads junk perfectly good modern signal heads just to put up a new version of the same model, here's one that definitely needs a new shield at least. Amazing the damage that constant salt breeze will do.

"It's better to burn out, than fade away"... But... I don't know about his next verse after that, "hey, hey, my my, rock and roll will never die" ... We sure are losing a lot of our rockers and there don't seem to be many replacements on the horizon, sadly. Nice work, as always, SR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/19/21 15:07 by IC_2024. ------------------------------------------------------- > What does the "C" plate indicate? (other than > corrosion) The C is for commuter. It only affects a couple of signal aspects/indications, but allows passenger trains to operate at a higher speed then freight trains in regards to passing the next signal. They either used a bucket or a ladder to get up to the signal head.
John Date: 04/19/21 20:51 Re: Rust- Never Sleeps/ Always Hungry Author: 4451Puff The trestle a La Selva Beach on the Santa Cruz branch was in this same condition, all while six axle units & loaded coal & cement trains were still using it. It has since been completely rebuilt, and ironically, is now no longer used.
